Todd Kettler

Dr. Kettler is a professional educator and innovator who has worked in gifted education and advanced academics in various roles for 29 years. As director of advanced academic programs in two large school districts, he initiated and managed program change at the classroom level and at the program level. He served on the Texas Commissioner’s Advisory Council for seven years including five years as the chairperson, which included updating and revising the Texas State Plan for gifted and talented education. Dr. Kettler has provided countless professional learning sessions in Texas and other states in the U.S. He has conducted numerous program evaluations and developed strategic plans to support systematic improvement of student outcomes.

Dr. Kettler’s focus is the science of exceptional performance and talent development. He specializes in creating learning opportunities that lead to student expertise and authentic achievement. His 2016 book, Modern Curriculum for Gifted and Advanced Academic Students won the Legacy Award for the best scholarly book in gifted education. His textbook, Developing Creativity in the Classroom (2018) is used in graduate programs in gifted education at multiple universities, and his most recent book, Personalized Learning and Gifted Education (2022) pushes boundaries for developing accelerated and customized pathways for talent development. Dr. Kettler is a Fellow in the International Society for the Study of Creativity and Innovation and widely regarded expert at the intersection of gifted education, advanced curriculum and creative thinking.

Laila Y. Sanguras

Dr. Sanguras was named one of Baylor University’s 2021 Outstanding Faculty Award winners. Her areas of teaching include educational evaluation and research methods. Dr. Sanguras is a former English Language Arts teacher to gifted eighth-grade students. She also worked as an evaluation specialist for Dallas Independent School District.

Dr. Sanguras’ primary scholarly interest is on the development of psychosocial skills, particularly grit and coping, and how teachers and parents can support their children to succeed academically and personally. These interests stemmed from her experiences as a teacher and a parent of six children.
